Publishing eBooks
Just recently I decided to test the waters with Amazon and publish a couple of books with their Kindle publishing programme. The first one was The Creative Writing Workbook which I listed as free until the end of the 1st of May and the second one, the title of this post, Stories and Poems to Make You Laugh and Cry I have priced at £1.53, not yet sure whether I will put this on as a free promotion straight away or wait and see.
Writing the eBooks with my Lenova laptop was no hardship, converting word documents to a format suitable to upload to Kindle was a bit more complicated. Reformatting the first book took twelve hours before I got it right, while the book says that once you get used to it you can do it in under an hour, I think that is overly optimistic. The second book took about five hours to convert and publish to Kindle.
I am currently working on my third book, the first of a series called Lambeth Croak - croak as in dead. I am quite convinced that once this is completed - currently running at 48,000 words and I am aiming for 75,000 words, it will take a whole lot longer to format and convert than the other two.
Was it Worth It?
I think that seeing your book cover up on Amazon for the first time definitely made the work worthwhile. So far, since last Thursday when the first book went live, more than 13,000 free copies have been downloaded and I have sold one copy of the stories and poems book so far. I will let you know how things go with the epublishing.
